Back to King's College London: Projects

King’s Materials Library

The King’s Materials Library www.materialslibrary.org.uk has been working with the Hayward gallery www.hayward.org.uk to organise an exhibit of fluorescent materials as part of the Dan Flavin retrospective. They have designed two cabinets containing 18 fluorescent materials from the Materials Library, including nano-dots, phosphorescent pigments, fluorescent diamonds and a genetically engineered fish. The cabinets can be seen at the Haywood until 2 April, when they will be returning for further exhibitions and talks at King’s.

The King’s Materials Library is a physical archive of more than 400 materials, specialising in new and advanced prototype materials collected from research labs all round the world.  The library is set up to emphasise the link between theory and the sensory aspects of materials. We provides access to samples, technical data and sourcing information. (www.materialslibrary.org.uk)

Members of the Materials Library regularly give talks on the latest new materials, and organise events and exhibitions, both at arts institutions such as the Tate Modern and at science departments, such as the Engineering Department King’s College London where we are based.
