Inmates Scheme

An innovative prison-visiting pilot scheme was set up by the College, with the help of the Higher Education Funding Council and the Home Office, that encourages Goldsmiths students to correspond with and visit inmates of London prisons, and this scheme aims especially to bring mutual benefits to both the wider community and to students. The HM Prison Service had recognised that existing prison visiting services were not able to keep pace with the ever-expanding prison population. Research has shown that inmates with a link to society stand less chance of re-offending after they leave prison.
