About Birkbeck

Birkbeck is a world-class research and teaching institution and a vibrant centre of academic excellence, which is recognised internationally as Britain’s top specialist in the provision of research-led education for mature students. Birkbeck has an outstanding reputation for the excellence of its research: 75% of the research returned in the field of History of Arts, Architecture and design was classified as 4* and 3* or of international significance. Although a new department which has not returned a research assessment yet, the department of Media and Cultural Studies has already achieved an excellent reputation and has seen its number of students significantly increase during the academic year 2009-2010.

Birkbeck's part-time courses offer an ideal opportunity for those in the Arts & Cultural sector to pursue their development whilst still working.
The School of Arts delivers a number of programmes in partnership with leading cultural organisations, which creates an exciting environment to study in and makes the courses extremely relevant to the work context today:

• MA Creative Producing - in partnership with Theatre Royal Stratford East
• MA in Medical Humanities (beginning 2010 - 2011) - in partnership with Kent, Surrey & Sussex Deanery
• MA Museum Cultures - in partnership with the British Museum, the Wellcome Trust Archives, the Dickens House Museum, the Petrie Museum, the Imperial War Museum, London Metropolitan Archives and SHAPE.
• MA Shakespeare and Contemporary Performance - in partnerhsip with The Globe Theatre
• MA Text and Performance - in partnership with RADA
• MFA in Theatre Directing - developed in collaboration with the National Council for Drama Training
• FD Arts Management - in partnership with the Institute of Contemporary Arts and Stratford Circus
• FD Performance - Dance - in partnership with Re:bourne, the educational programme of Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures
• Cert HE World Arts & Artefacts - in partnership with the British Museum
