The event follows from a round table event we hosted in December 2008 to provide a space to discuss the outcomes of a piece of research commissioned by LCACE to examine the impact of our annual Seed Fund programme.

At the time, we were particularly interested in exploring ways in which we might better be able to define and/or articulate the non-economic impacts of that aspect of our work.

The research, led by Lucy Hutton, then at Stepahead Research and now at Arts Council England, proposed the potential for four key kinds of Impact as follows: Personal Impact, Network Impact, Knowledge Impact and Institutional Impact.

‘Impact Narratives’ sets out to:

  • disseminate key project findings from the ‘Impact of LCACE’ project
  • present a small number of reflective case-studies and
  • host a panel discussion on the impact agenda with a focus on new potentials to understand, articulate and value the impacts that academic research and practice brings to bear on the cultural sector and society more widely. This will bring together some of those who are making valuable contributions to current research in the field

Presenters include: Professor Alan Hughes (Centre for Business Research, University of Cambridge, Lucy Hutton (Senior Strategy Officer, Research, Arts Council England and formerly Stepahead Research), Ben Sumner (Guildhall School of Music & Drama), Professor Calvin Taylor (Chair in Cultural Industries, School of Performance and Cultural Industries, University of Leeds) Rob Turnock (Media Arts Dept, Royal Holloway) and Shearer West (Head of Research, AHRC). Chaired by Professor Barry Ife (Principal, Guildhall School of Music & Drama).

‘Impact Narratives’ is a part of the ongoing ‘SME and Research Intensive Universities Pilot Project’ taking place at King’s College London and is supported by the London Development Agency.
