I work nationwide and internationally, so if you are some way away and its not possible for us to get together in person, there’s a wealth of other ways we can communicate – telephone, email, Facebook, Skype etc.. choose whatever works best for you.
I believe that a great collection of wedding images is made up of a number of different styles and facets of photography. Some pros will specialise in one particular style (i.e. Reportage/Journalistic) but for me, I see various styles that are deployed across the day.
Underpinning the day is telling the story with pictures. We call this reportage or journalistic photography. The story begins with the bridal party preparations and runs throughout the day like a thread leading all the way to the first dance. This is the part that captures all the moments that you didn’t necessarily plan – the proud looks of parents, ceremony nerves and tears, the little ones playing, the loving glances and all the other fabulous ‘stuff’ that happens along the way.
Then there is an aspect of wedding photography that is akin to record keeping. This is the part which ensures that when you look back at your images, you can remember exactly what the venue looked like, how you styled your wedding breakfast tables and ‘those shoes’. This is the “detail”, the trimmings if you like and just as important.
Then there is my very favourite part of the wedding photography suite. This happens during the part of the day where we set aside dedicated time to create some images that really capture your relationship. Away from the hubbub of your wedding day, we explore your surroundings together – taking time to set up and capture visually stunning images in both a fashion and romantic style, sprinkled with more than a hint of drama and ‘wow’.
... I call this merge of styles my Magazine Wedding Photography.
